 José Sánchez del Río: Boy Martyr of the Cristero War

Once upon a time in a small Mexican town called Sahuayo, there lived a brave and spirited young boy named José Sánchez del Río. Born on March 28, 1913, he was destined to become a shining example of courage and faith.

The captors tried to break José's spirit, hoping he would renounce his faith, but they couldn't break his resolve. Despite enduring terrible torture, our young hero remained steadfast and defiant, clinging to his beliefs with unwavering faith.


Finally, on February 10, 1928, José's captors sentenced him to death. They thought that by ending his life, they could extinguish his unwavering faith. But little did they know that José's legacy would live on, inspiring generations to come.


On the day of his execution, José faced his fate with remarkable courage and serenity. He walked to the place of his martyrdom, a smile on his face and prayers on his lips. The brave young boy was ready to meet his maker, knowing that he would be welcomed with open arms.


As the executioner prepared to take his life, José shouted, "¡Viva Cristo Rey!" which means "Long live Christ the King!" Those were his final words, echoing through the hearts of all who witnessed his martyrdom.


News of José's incredible bravery and unwavering faith spread like wildfire. People from all walks of life were inspired by his story, and he was soon declared a martyr for the Catholic faith.


Today, Saint José Sánchez del Río is celebrated as a true hero, a symbol of courage and faith for young and old alike. His life serves as a reminder that no matter how young or small we may be, we can make a difference in the world with our unwavering spirit and love for what is right.
